Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos' Kinds of Kindness gets release date

Fresh off the success at the 96th Academy Awards with Poor Things, director Yorgos Lanthimos and actress Emma Stone are set to join hands once again with their next collaboration, Kinds of Kindness, slated for a summer 2024 release.

The sci-fi anthology movie stars Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie and Hunter Schafer.

Lanthimos penned the screenplay with Efthimis Filippou, with whom he co-wrote the dark thrillers and absurdist comedies, The Lobster, Killing of a Sacred Deer and Dogtooth. The movie, originally titled And, was shot in New Orleans in late 2022.

Lanthimos at the Golden Globes described the movie as follows: “It’s three contemporary stories, and there’s a core of actors — seven total — who play one character in each story,”:” he said. “So, they’ll play three different characters.” The filmmaker mentioned back in January he was currently editing Kind of Kindness.

Kinds of Kindness will mark the third time Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone collaborate in a film together, after The Favourite and Poor Things proved that the dream team can take charge of diverse narratives. The Favourite landed 10 Oscar nominations including best supporting actress for Stone, with the movie’s lone win going to Olivia Colman for lead actress.

The film will be distributed by Searchlight Pictures and is scheduled to hit theatres on June 21.
