Actor Neve Campbell announced through her Instagram handle that she is coming back to the Scream franchise as the legendary scream queen Sidney Prescott. Campbell opted out of the sixth instalment in the franchise over a pay dispute, but she is now back in the seventh one, with Kevin Williamson to direct. This piece of news is sure to excite Scream fans, as the seventh instalment faced many setbacks with Jenna Ortega opting out of the project, Melissa Barrera getting dropped, and Christopher Landon backed away from the project.

The original Scream from 1996 revolves around a masked killer known as Ghostface who stalks Campbell's Sidney Prescott and her friends to kill them. The Wes Craven film is instantly identifiable by its poster that features a shell-shocked Campbell.

Williamson wrote the first four instalments in the franchise, executive produced the second, fifth, and sixth films, as well as produced the third and fourth ones. Scream VII marks the sophomore directorial of Williamson; previously, he directed 1999's Teaching Mrs. Tingle.

Guy Busick is penning the script for the seventh Scream film as he replaces Scream VI writer James Vanderbilt. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Vanderbilt is not writing for Scream VII as he is directing his sophomore feature NurembergHowever, as per the publication, Vanderbilt is producing the film with Paul Neinstein and William Sherak under their Project X Entertainment banner. On the other hand, Radio Silence is executive producing the project.
