Writers Arthur Harari and Justine Triet have won an Oscar in the Original Screenplay category for their work in Anatomy of a Fall. Triet also directed the film, which revolves around Sandra Hüller's character who is accused of murdering her spouse.
Thanking the Academy, writer-director Triet stated that her Oscar would help her through her "midlife crisis." She also compared the occasion with the lock-down situation she faced while writing for Anatomy of a Fall. "Stuck in the house during lockdown with two kids hooked up to cartoons for peace. There is no line between work and diapers."
The category also included nominations for David Hemingson for The Holdovers, Bradley Cooper and Josh Singer for Maestro, Samy Burch for May December, and Celine Song for Past Lives.
With this, Anatomy of a Fall became the first film in a non-English category to win an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay since 2019's Parasite.
