Oscars 2024: Action sequence from RRR featured as tribute to stunt community

Oscar nominees Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt presented the 1.15-minute showreel at the grand event

An action sequence from SS Rajamouli's RRR made an appearance at the 96th Academy Awards in a montage celebrating the contribution of the stunt community towards international cinema.

Oscar nominees Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt presented the 1.15-minute showreel at the grand event, which was held on Sunday night at Los Angeles' Dolby Theatre.

"They have been such a crucial part of our industry since the beginning of cinema... To the stunt performers and stunt coordinators who help make movies magic. We salute you," Gosling said. "They are truly the unsung heroes who risk life and limb for cinema," added Blunt.

The Academy paid homage to RRR's climax action sequence during the montage. Not just that, during the presentation of the Best Original Song award, 'Naatu Naatu' song was played on the big screen as Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo announced the winner.

The official X handle of the film, shared the clip and wrote: “And again, a sweet surprise for us... Glad that The Academy included RRR movie action sequence as a part of their tribute to the world’s greatest stunt sequence in cinema."

The song had already made history by winning the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2023. For the special moment, music director MM Keeravaani and lyricist Chandrabose accepted the award and delivered a speech on stage.

The 'Naatu Naatu' live performance by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava at the Oscars received a standing ovation from the crowd. The act was introduced by Deepika Padukone, who was one of the presenters at the Oscars last year.
