One of the makers of The Wedding Banquet, Bleecker Street Films has announced that production on the film has been completed. Writer-director Andrew Ahn and co-writer James Schamus' film is a remake of Ang Lee's 1993 rom-com titled The Wedding Banquet. The film stars Lily Gladstone, Faye Dunaway, Bowen Yang, Kelly Marie Tran, Joan Chen, and Youn Yuh-jung.
The plot of the remake follows that of the original. Ang Lee's film is about a gay Taiwanese man in the US who fakes a marriage to please his parents but faces chaos when his family visits for the wedding.
Ahn is best known for directing the third and fourth episodes of Bridgerton Season 3. On the other hand, Gladstone last appeared in the film Jazzy, and Dunaway played herself in this year's documentary film Faye.
Schamus is producing the remake of The Wedding Banquet with partner Joe Pirro under their Symbolic Exchange banner, alongside Anita Gou and Caroline Clark for Kindred Spirit. The film is slated for a 2025 release.
