Jonathan Majors is set to headline the independent revenge thriller Merciless. Martin Villeneuve, the brother of acclaimed filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, will direct Merciless from a Frank Hannah screenplay. It is Majors' first film role since his 2023 conviction for domestic assault and subsequent dismissal from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Merciless is about a CIA agent (Majors) who takes extreme measures after his lover falls victim to sinister forces. The film will go on floors in Saskatchewan later this year.

Majors' legal troubles stem from an April conviction for assaulting and harassing his ex-girlfriend. A Manhattan judge, who presided over the actor's trial, sentenced him to one year of domestic violence counselling, requiring him to complete a 52-week in-person program in Los Angeles. Therefore, it remains unclear how this will affect the production schedule for the film.

Merciless is in development at the production house Sentient Pictures International of Christopher Tuffin. Reportedly, Tuffin plans to launch a new media venture focusing on challenging "the court of public opinion and selective prosecution undermining great art and artists."

Tuffin will produce the film with Kevin Townsend and Kevin DeWalt. Executive producers include Amanda Delaplaine, Chris Ochs, Andrew Bates, and Ben DeWalt.
