UFC Chief Dana White says Dwayne Johnson could win an Oscar for The Smashing Machine

It is well known that Dwayne Johnson is preparing for his role as Mark Kerr in the upcoming film The Smashing Machine. The first look of the film was released a few weeks ago which saw the actor in an unrecognisable role.

Dana White, the President and CEO of UFC said he has been impressed with Johnson's work. "He's taken this very seriously. This has been a passion project for him for a while, and he has 100% of the support from the UFC. Obviously, he's a friend of mine, and this is his chance for an Oscar."

The Smashing Machine is set to chronicle Mark Kerr's story, his struggles with addiction, love, friendship, and of course MMA championship victories. Kerr has won above two dozen MMA titles, including a two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Championship and World Vale Tudo Championship. Benny Safdie, popular for directing Uncut Gems and Good Time, will write and direct the film.

Recently Johnson suffered a nasty injury on his right elbow on the sets of the film. “Elbow got kissed by the boo boo monster. No extensive tissue damage. Ruptured bursa sac that will eventually heal,” he wrote on Instagram. A few days later he revealed that he is back to work.

Apart from Johnson, the film is also set to star newly crowned World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Oleksandr Usyk. Emily Blunt is also in talks to star in the MMA drama.

Safdie will also produce the film under the Out for the Count banner alongside Eli Bush and David Koplan, with Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia's Seven Bucks Production.
