We had earlier reported that actor Julia Butters is in talks to join Freaky Friday 2. Although her casting is yet to be confirmed, the makers are planning to rope in Manny Jacinto for the sequel.

Details about the actor's role have not been disclosed yet. The Canadian actor, who has played many small roles on TV, is recognised for essaying Jason Mendoza on the NBC sitcom The Good Place.

As reported earlier, Nisha Ganatra is set to direct the sequel for the film from a script by Jordan Weiss. Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, who starred in the first part directed by Mark Waters, are officially returning for the follow-up. The other cast members and the plot of the film has not been revealed yet. The film will be produced by Andrew Gunn and Kristin Burr.

Nisha Ganatra is best known for directing 2019’s Late Night with Mindy Kaling and Emma Thomps, and the 2020 film The High Note starring Dakota Johnson and Tracee Ellis Ross. She most recently helmed two episodes of Hulu’s Welcome to Chippendales.

Based on Mary Rodgers's 1972 novel of the same name, Freaky Friday is the third adaptation of the same story and fifth installment overall in the Freaky Friday franchise.

In 2003's Freaky Friday, which was a remake of the a 1977 film starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster, the mother and daughter duo eat a magical Chinese fortune cookie, which results in them switching bodies. This results in hilarious situations, revelations and eventually, better bonding of the mother and daughter.

Along with Lohan and Curtis, the beloved film, which was a hit among millennials, also starred Chad Michael Murray and Mark Harmon.
