A series adaptation of director Eli Roth's Hostel films is in the works at Fifth Season, which is the studio known for Severance. Actor Paul Giamatti is on board, and Roth is attached to the project as its co-writer, co-executive producer, and director. Franchise producer Chris Briggs is part of it as a co-writer and co-executive producer. Hostel alum Mike Fleiss also serves as an executive producer.

A 2005 release, Roth's Hostel revolves around an organisation that kidnaps and holds people captive, subjects them to rigorous torture, and kills them for its rich clientele. The show is described as a "reinvention" and "modern adaptation" of the horror franchise. Roth directed the first two films, but not the third and final instalment in the franchise.

Giamatti most recently starred in The Holdovers and will next be seen in Downtown Abbey 3. On the other hand, Roth last helmed 2023's Thanksgiving, and his next Borderlands, starring Cate Blanchett, Jack Black, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Kevin Hart, will release on August 9 worldwide.
