Wesley Snipes reminisced how the thought of him playing Blade again Deadpool and Wolverine originated. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Snipes said, "It started with a text from Ryan Reynolds."
However, the actor was not convinced that he would get the part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film, also starring Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and co-written and directed by Shawn Levy. He told the publication, “I did not think it was possible. I didn’t think he would be able to pull it off. I didn’t think that Marvel was into it. Disney was into it. And also because they had Mahershala, you know, cast for the next upcoming version of it. So, it didn’t make sense to me.”
Although hesitant to take on the role initially, Snipes eventually put his trust in the makers.
Snipes played Blade, a vampire slayer, in 1998's film of the same name and reprised the role in its two sequels.
Earlier, Snipes stated that he has always been an MCU fan while he supported the Blade reboot and the casting of Mahershala Ali in the titular role.
