The distributor of filmmaker M Night Shyamalan's upcoming film Trap, Warner Bros. Pictures, released a new poster featuring the silhouette of a man with a butcher's knife and hands of spectators shooting his potentially sinister deed with their mobile cameras. Going against his usual style of making the big reveal at the end, Shyamalan hinted in the trailer for the film itself that Josh Hartnett plays the killer. Explaining the reason for almost revealing the twist in the trailer itself in a conversation with The Wrap, Shyamalan said, "You can’t hide it as it happens so early. This is the fun of the film.”

In an another recent conversation, he also described Trap as a blend of "The Silence of the Lambs meet a Taylor Swift concert."

According to the filmmaker, the concert in the film is a real event, not a staged one. He told Empire Online, "One of the reasons to come see the movie at the movie theatre is because there’s literally a real concert that you can see nowhere except in that movie."

The film features Shyamalan’s daughter Saleka performing as a post star named Lady Raven. Hartnett’s character Cooper attends it with his daughter Riley (Ariel Donoghue).

Shyamalan also told Empire that Trap is partly inspired by an incident from 1985 where "fugitives were offered free NFL tickets, and the chance to win an all-expenses-paid Super Bowl trip. Except, 100-odd hopefuls attended and discovered that it was a sting operation."

The film also stars Hayley Mills and Alison Pill. It is slated for an August 2 release.
