The universe of Dexter is expanding as a new sequel series has been announced by Showtime. Titled Dexter: Resurrection, the new series will see the return of actor Michael C Hall playing the lead role as the titular character Dexter Morgan.

Dexter: Resurrection is a follow-up to the 2021 Dexter: New Blood and is set in the present day. The series will be released in the summer of 2025. Further details regarding the plot and cast have been kept under wraps.

Apart from starring in the sequel, Michael will also narrate the inner voice of a young Dexter (played by Patrick Gibson) in the previously announced prequel series Dexter: Original Sin, which takes place in the '90s. Clyde Phillips who served as the showrunner for Dexter: New Blood is also helming Dexter: Original Sin.

The 10-episode prequel is set in 1991, 15 years before the events of Dexter, following the lead character (Gibson) "as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer." As per the synopsis, "When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry, he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department."

The ensemble cast of Dexter: Original Sin also stars Patrick Dempsey, Christian Slater, and Sarah Michelle Gellar. It will debut on Paramount+ in December.
