After De Niro, George Clooney welcomes Biden decision to step aside

A day after actor Robert De Niro praised US President Joe Biden for pulling out from the US Presidential Election race as "an act of shrewd politics and selfless patriotism", George Clooney welcomed Biden's decision.

Clooney said that Biden has "saved democracy" and added that the US President has "shown what true leadership is."

It is worth noting that Clooney made headlines with his op-ed in The New York Times in which he urged Biden to terminate his campaign after his dismal performance in the first presidential debate against his Republican opponent, Donald Trump.

George Clooney had co-hosted a Hollywood fundraiser for Biden, that raised $28 million.

Earlier, Robert De Niro praised the incumbent president's decision. De Niro said it was important to defeat Donald Trump now. He said, "In an act of shrewd politics and selfless patriotism, Joe Biden is stepping aside to clear the path for another Democrat to become president . . . because there is nothing more important for our country than defeating Donald Trump at the ballot box. With respect, admiration, and affection, thank you Mr. President!”
