The makers of The Crow, a remake of the 1994 film of the same name, released a new poster for the film earlier this Thursday. The poster features John Wick 4 star Bill Skarsgard and FKA Twigs. Director Rupert Sanders' film stars Skarsgard as Eric Draven, a man who dies and comes back as a supernatural being to take revenge for the death of his girlfriend, Twigs' character Shelly Webster. The character that Skarsgard plays in the film is described as an antihero with supernatural powers, such as the ability to withstand stabbings and gunshots.
Alex Proyas' 1994 original is known for its dark and Gothic visual world, reminiscent of films like Ridley Scott's Blade Runner and Tim Burton's Batman. It is also remembered for the breakout performance of the late Brandon Lee, who unfortunately died from a bullet that accidentally came off a prop gun on the set. Like the 1994 film, its remake is also based on James O’Barr's graphic novel. The film has been in the news since Proyas, the maker of the 1994 original, expressed his disappointment about the remake.
"I really don't get any joy from seeing negativity about any fellow filmmakers' work. And I'm certain the cast and crew really had all good intentions, as we all do on any film. So it pains me to say any more on this topic, but I think the fan's response speaks volumes. The Crow is not just a movie. Brandon Lee died making it, and it was finished as a testament to his lost brilliance and tragic loss. It is his legacy. That's how it should remain," stated Proyas.
Sanders directed it from Zach Baylin's screenplay. On the other hand, Edward R Pressman, Victor Hadida, Samuel Hadida, Molly Hassell, and John Jencks produced it. Also starring Danny Huston, Laura Birn, and Isabella Wei, among others, The Crow is slated for an August 23 release in theatres.
