
After being in the industry for more than two decades, Selena Gomez has received her first acting nomination for her role as Mabel Mora in Only Murders in the Building.
She was nominated alongside Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson, The Bear‘s Ayo Edebiri, Loot‘s Maya Rudolph, Hacks‘ Jean Smart and Palm Royale‘s Kristen Wiig.
Only Murders in the Building season three, which was released in 2023, was also nominated for best comedy series at the 2024 Emmys, along with Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Hacks, Palm Royale, Reservation Dogs and What We Do in the Shadows. This marks the Hulu series’ third nomination in the top category.
Her co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short were both nominated for best actor in a comedy series for the third time. Selena Gomez herself has been nominated earlier for her work as an executive producer on the series, but this is her first recognition as an actor.
In total, the show has received 21 nominations, just two short of The Bear which had 23 nominations. Shogun had 25.
Only Murders in the Building, which debuted in 2021, has Selena Gomez, Martin Short and Steve Martin joining hands for a true crime podcast while investigating mysterious deaths that happen in the Arconia, their affluent Upper West Side apartment building.
The investigative comedy drama series, whose fourth season is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on August 27, has added a bunch of new cast members this season. Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy, Kumail Nanjiani, Molly Shannon, Melissa McCarthy, Desmin Borges, Siena Werber, Lilian Rebelo, Richard Kind, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Catherine Cohen, Jin Ha and Zach Galifianakis are joining for season 4. Apart from them, series regulars Meryl Streep, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Michael Cyril Creighton and Tina Fey will return for the upcoming season.
