Director Michael Mann, who is busy with the works of a sequel to the hit 1998 film Heat, has given an official statement regarding the shoot and casting details of the film.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, he said that he is currently working on writing a screenplay for Heat 2, based on his novel of the same name. The film is said to work as both a prequel and a sequel to the first film.
He added he is planning to go on floors either by the end of 2024 or early 2025; however, he was tight-lipped about the casting details of the film. His clarification comes at the backdrop of rumours claiming Adam Driver will be taking up the role of Robert De Niro and Austin Butler will be taking up Val Kilmer's.
Heat is a crime film with Al Pacino and Robert De Niro in the lead, while the cast also included Jon Voight, Val Kilmer, Tom Sizemore, Diana Venora, Amy Brenneman, Ashley Judd, Mykelti Williamson, Wes Studi, and Ted Levine.
Based on the book, the film is expected to unfold in two time periods, with the first one following Chris Shileris' bid to escape LAPD and the second one set in Chicago in 1988.
