Actor Colin Firth is the latest to join the cast of Young Sherlock series directed by Guy Ritchie and written by Matthew Parkhill who also serves as the showrunner.

Ordered to series in May, the upcoming Prime Video series is inspired by Andy Lane's Young Sherlock Holmes novels, a take on the iconic detective created by author Arthur Conan Doyle.

Colin Firth joins previously announced cast members, Hero Fiennes Tiffin who essays the titular role, Zine Tseng as Princess Gulun Shou’an, and Joseph Fiennes and Natascha McElhone as Sherlock's parents. Colin is set to play Sir Bucephalus Hodge. Further details on his role are kept under wraps.

The official description of the show reads, "At age 19, Sherlock Holmes is disgraced, raw, unfiltered, and unformed when he finds himself caught up in a murder mystery at Oxford University, which threatens his freedom. Diving into his first-ever case with a wild lack of discipline, Sherlock manages to unravel a globe-trotting conspiracy that will change his life forever."

Guy Ritchie also executive produces along with Matthew Parkhill, Simon Kelton, Ivan Atkinson, Simon Maxwell, Dhana Gilbert, Colin Wilson, and Marc Resteghini. A potential release date is yet to be announced by the makers.

Colin Firth is best known for his roles in The King's Speech, A Single Man, The English Patient, the Bridget Jones films, the Kingsman films, the Mamma Mia films and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. He has also played Mr Darcy in the 1995 BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. Colin was recently seen as Michael Peterson in the 2022 Max limited series The Staircase, which earned him his second Emmy nomination.
