Netflix has dropped the trailer for writer-director Lee Daniels' horror thriller The Deliverance, which stars Andra Day, Caleb McLaughlin, Glenn Close, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and Mo’Nique. The official logline reads, "After moving into a mysterious house, a struggling mother (Day) must face down her demons in order to save her children’s souls." The makers claim that the film is "inspired by a true story of possession."
The film reunites Daniels with his The United States vs. Billie Holiday star Day. The United States vs. Billie Holiday earned Day a Best Actress Oscar in 2021 for her performance in the titular role of iconic singer Billie Holiday.
Daniels directed the film from a screenplay he wrote alongside Elijah Bynum and David Coggeshall. He also produced it with Todd Crites, Jeremey Green, Lisa C Satriano, Jackson Nguyen, Tucker Tooley, and Pamela Oas Williams.
The Deliverance is slated for an August 30 release on Netflix.
