Anora distributor Neon released the first trailer for the film, a romantic dramedy written and directed by Sean Baker, best known for the 2017 Willem Dafoe starrer The Florida Project. The film features Better Things star Mikey Madison as a high-end stripper in Brooklyn who falls for and marries the son of a powerful Russian oligarch. Things get messy when the groom's family in Russia comes to New York with a plan.
The cast also includes Mark Eydelshteyn, Yuriy Borisov, Karren Karagulian, and Vache Tovmasyan. The film opens in limited theatres on October 18th. Produced by FilmNation Entertainment alongside Samantha Quan, Alex Coco, and Baker himself, Anora received a 10-minute standing ovation at its recent Cannes premiere. Subsequently, it won the prestigious Palme d'Or award at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
This is Baker's eighth film as both writer and director. It marks his comeback after 2021's dark comedy Red Rocket, starring Simon Rex, which also premiered at Cannes.
