The distributors of Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2, co-written and directed by and starring Kevin Costner, have announced that its theatrical release date has been delayed. The film was originally slated for an August 16 release in theatres. Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 will stream on Max on July 16 and will keep running in theatres following its theatrical release earlier this year. A New Line Cinema representative's statement reads thus: "Territory Pictures and New Line Cinema have decided not to release Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2 on August 16 in order to give audiences a greater opportunity to discover the first installment of Horizon over the coming weeks, including on PVOD and MAX. We thank our exhibition partners for their continued support as moviegoers across the US discover the film in its theatrical run.”
Besides serving as its co-writer with Jon Baird and director, Costner plays Hayes Ellison, a cowboy who visits a place called Horizon. Costner named his character after his teenage son Hayes, who makes his acting debut in the Western film set against Civil War backdrop. The ensemble cast of Horizon: An American Saga also includes Sam Worthington, Sienna Miller, Jena Malone, Danny Huston, Tim Guinee, and Scott Haze, among others.
Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 marked Costner's comeback to cinema as a director after 21 years. His last directorial project was 2003's Western film Open Range.
