The makers of the upcoming sci-fi horror film, Afraid, unveiled the film's trailer on Wednesday. Written and directed by Chris Weitz, the film stars John Cho and Catherine Waterston in lead roles.
The trailer of Afraid shows Cho and Waterston as a husband and wife with children. They test an AI system called AIA, which is fixed all over their house. At first, AIA starts assuming itself as a mother, over Waterston. The trailer then shows that the AI gets too involved and takes matters into its own hands, dealing with problems frighteningly and dangerously.
The official logline of Afraid reads, "Curtis (John Cho) and his family are selected to test a revolutionary new home device: a digital family assistant called AIA. Taking smart home to the next level, once the unit and all its sensors and cameras are installed in their home, AIA seems able to do it all. She learns the family's behaviours and begins to anticipate their needs. And she can make sure nothing – and no one – gets in her family’s way."
Havana Rose Liu, Lukita Maxwell, David Dastmalchian, Keith Carradine, and Riki Lindhome also star in Afraid, among others. Chris Weitz has also produced the film along with Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions and Andrew Miano of Columbia Pictures.
Afraid is all set to hit theatres on August 30.
