Tim Burton's much-anticipated sequel to the 1988 classic horror film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is set to be the opening film in the 81st International Venice Film Festival.

Starring an ensemble cast that includes Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, Jenna Ortega, and Willem Dafoe, the film will have its world premiere out-of-competition on August 28 at the Lido's Palazzo del Cinema. It is to be noted that this year's Venice Film Festival runs from August 28 to September 7.

The film's official description reads," After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia's life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it's only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice's name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem".

Directed by Tim Burton, the film has a script penned by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. The film also stars Monica Bellucci, Justin Theroux, Arthur Conti, Burn Gorman, and Filipe Cates. The original Beetlejuice also starred Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jordan, and Catherine O'Hara, among others.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is all set to debut in Indian theatres on September 6.
