Ex-Supervillan, Gru is all set to create mayhem with Lucy, his adorable children, Margo, Edith and Agnes along with the newest addition, Gru Junior in the upcoming fourth installment of Despicable Me.

Chris Renaud has helmed Despicable Me 4 along with Patrick Delage, from a script penned by Mike White and Ken Daurio.

As audiences have seen the growth of the character of Gru through 3 films of Despicable Me, the fourth film promises a stronger, more relatable evolution of Steve Carell’s role, as he tackles new challenges in every film, this one is no exception. On balancing Gru Jr. and protecting his family with a threat over his head, Carell says, "Lucy and the girls have always been his motivation to be the best that he can be, but with the arrival of Gru Jr., the family dynamic changes. Gru Jr. is a chip off the old block, but he’s not warming up to dear old dad. Gru has nothing but love for his baby boy, but he faces an uphill battle to win his son’s affection. It’s every parent’s nightmare to not instantly bond with your kids, and Gru struggles to establish a relationship with his new bundle of joy, while simultaneously saving the world as an AVL agent."

Steve Carell also reveals what makes his character tick in the new film. He says, “Some people aren’t so nice, but they try to convince the world that they are; Gru is nice, but he tries to convince the world that he’s not! As the series has progressed, the writers have explored different aspects of Gru’s world.”

While Steve Carell, Miranda Cosgrove and Kristen Wiig will be reprising their voice roles as Gru, Miranda and Lucy respectively, new cast members include, Will Ferrell as Maxime Le Mal, Sofia Vergara as Valentina, and Joey King as Poppy. Additionally, Stephen Colbert, Chloe Fineman, and Chris Renaud have been cast in undisclosed roles. Pierre Coffin returns as the voice of the Minions and Steve Coogan returns as Silas Ramsbottom.

Despicable Me 1, which hit theatres in 2010, was about Gru adopting three girls, while the second film (2013) revolved around him finding his romantic partner, Lucy. In Despicable Me 3 (2017), Gru has a confrontation with his long-lost twin brother, Dru.

The film will hit the big screens on July 4.
