Warner Bros moves Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire for early release, pulls Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17 from schedule

We had earlier reported that Warner Bros will release Bong Joon Ho's upcoming film Mickey 17, starring Robert Pattinson in theatres on March 29, 2024. It has now been officially announced that the film has been pulled off the schedule and has been postponed indefinitely. The studio also announced a move of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire to a March 29 release date.

According to Variety, the highly anticipated sci-fi movie from the Korean filmmaker was made to allow more time to finish the project, which had been affected due to last year’s strikes and other various production shifts. Thus, the latest instalment in Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment’s Godzilla and Kong franchise, which was previously scheduled to hit theatres on April 12, will now debut two weeks earlier.

Mickey 17 is based on the science fiction novel Mickey 7 by Edward Ashton. Starring Robert in the titular role,   also stars Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo.

The film is produced by Plan B Entertainment, Dooho Choi of Kate Street Picture Company, and Bong Joon Ho under his Offscreen, Inc. banner.  Mickey 17 is shot by cinematographer Darius Khondji, with production design by Fiona Crombie. Jinmo Yang who has worked in Parasite, will be the editor of this film as well. The music is by composer Jae-il Jung.

The latest installment in Warners/Legendary’s Monsterverse film franchise Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire follows up Godzilla vs. Kong, which was released to great success in 2021. The cast includes Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Kaylee Hottle, and Daniel Stevens. Mary Parent, Alex Garcia, Eric McLeod, Brian Rogers, and Thomas Tull served as the film’s producers.
