Gerard Butler to reprise his role in How to Train Your Dragon in live action adaptation

Actor Gerard Butler who lent his voice to the character Stoick in the animation film How to Train Your Dragon, is set to reprise his role in the upcoming live-action adaptation of the same. Coming from Universal Pictures, the film will also feature Mason Thames and Nico Parker as Hiccup and Astrid respectively.

It is helmed by Dean DeBlois who will also write and produce the feature.

The film series, based on a book series by Cressida Cowell, revolves around the adventures of an eccentric teenage Viking, Hiccup, who stumbles across an injured dragon one day in the mythical Viking village of Berk. Hiccup names the dragon Toothless, and the pair forms an unbreakable and iconic bond throughout the series. Astrid, the female lead in the film, initially dislikes dragons but eventually develops a bond with them and becomes Hiccup's partner.

How to Train Your Dragon is set to release on June 13, 2025.
