Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo's Wicked trailer is here

The much-awaited first-look trailer of Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo's Wicked was released at Super Bowl LVIII.

Wicked begins to narrate the story of the witches of Oz, starring Cynthia as Elphaba, a young woman, misunderstood because of her unusual green skin, who has yet to discover her true power and Ariana as Glinda, a popular young woman, gilded by privilege and ambition, who has yet to discover her true heart. The two meet at Shiz University in the land of Oz where they become close friends.

“Something just takes over me and when it does, bad things happen,” explains Elphaba and Michelle Yeoh’s Madame Morrible tells her that once she learns to harness her emotions, "sky is the limit." Following an encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads and their lives take very different paths.

Directed by Jon M Chu, Wicked is the first of a two-part film adaptation of Holzman and Schwartz's stage musical of the same name. The first part of the film is headlined by Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba.

Wicked is a prequel to the iconic events of The Wizard of Oz, and tells the story of two unlikely friends, Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) and Galinda (whose name later changes to Glinda the Good Witch), who struggle through opposing personalities and viewpoints, rivalry over the same love-interest, reactions to the Wizard's corrupt government, and, ultimately, Elphaba's public fall from grace.

The cast of the film also includes Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Ethan Slater as Boq, Jeff Goldblum as The Wizard, Bowen Yang and Bronwyn James as Pfannee and ShenShen, Marissa Bode as Elphaba's sister Nessarose, Keala Settle as Miss Coddle, Aaron Teoh as Avaric and Colin Michael Carmichael as Professor Nikidik.

The first part of the film is scheduled for release on November 27, 2024, while Wicked: Part Two will be released in December 2025.
