Denzel Washington and Spike Lee reunite for thriller titled High and Low

Longtime collaborators Denzel Washington and Spike Lee are joining hands once again for a thriller film coming from Apple Original Films in partnership with A24. Titled High and Low, the film will have a theatrical release, handled by A24, before its global premiere on Apple TV+.

High and Low is a reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa's 1963 crime thriller film, in the English language. The film revolves around a Yokohama shoe company executive, who finds himself in a dangerous situation when his chauffeur's son is mistakenly kidnapped and held for ransom. It is still unclear whether High and Low is an exact reinterpretation of the original film.

High and Low, which is written by Alan Fox and Lee, is set to go on floors in March. It will be produced by Todd Black for Escape Artists and Jason Michael Berman for Mandalay Pictures. Lee will serve as executive producer under his 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks banner, apart from directing.

This film will be the fifth collaboration between Washington and Lee, their most recent partnership being Inside Man in 2006. They previously teamed up on iconic films like Malcolm X, He Got Game, and Mo' Better Blues. While interest in this project sparked last spring, it was initially delayed due to strikes from writers and actors, which halted production on Washington's Gladiator sequel. Now, with those issues resolved, High and Low have moved to the forefront for both Oscar winners.
