As Jon M Chu's musical fantasy Wicked achieved success in the box office, the film starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande is all set to make its digital debut.
The film that opened to an overwhelming positive response has grossed over $575 million globally and has entered the list of 50 top-grossing films in the US box office. The CE review of the film reads, "Barring the film's simplistic notions of morality, it is an exhilarating watch for its smart plotline, theme-based musical numbers, and some brilliant casting choices."
The makers announced that the Wizard of Oz prequel will be available for rent or purchase from New Year's Eve (December 31) on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and Fandango. The digital version, according to NBC, will also have extended and deleted scenes of 40 minutes and the bonus sing-along.
The Wicked franchise, which is based on Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, offers a fresh perspective on the well-known The Wizard of Oz characters, exploring their lives before Dorothy's arrival in Oz.
Recently, the highly anticipated follow-up to the blockbuster film Wicked has officially received a new title ahead of its release in 2025. Universal Pictures announced on social media that the second installment will be officially titled Wicked: For Good.
