Actor Denzel Washington was baptized at the Kelly Temple Church of God in Christ in Harlem, New York on Sunday and received his minister license. The license clears the way for the Gladiator II star to be ordained as a minister in the future.
The service was broadcast live on Facebook and during the event, the actor, who was wearing gray T-shirt and black sweatpants, said, "In one week I turn 70. It took a while, but I’m here. If [God] can do this for me, there’s nothing He can’t do for you. The sky literally is the limit."
Washington’s wife, Pauletta, was also in attendance at the ceremony and spoke about how proud she was of her husband’s spiritual journey. The couple, who got married in 1983, have four children.
The two-time Academy Award winner has previously spoken openly about his faith, stating in an interview with Esquire last month that, although discussions about religion are uncommon in Hollywood, he remains steadfast in expressing his beliefs and personal journey.
"It’s not fashionable. It’s not sexy. But that doesn’t mean people in Hollywood don’t believe. There’s no such thing called Hollywood anyway," he said.
The actor has previously revealed that he has plans to hang his boots with his final role being the third Black Panther film. He also has Highest 2 Lowest, directed by Spike Lee and starring A$AP Rocky and Ice Spice.
