Criminal Minds showrunner Ed Bernero has joined Marvel's Nova which is currently in the works at Disney+. He is onboard as writer and showrunner of the series, which will revolve around the titular Nova or Richard Rider.
Originally, Moon Knight writer Sabir Pirzada was selected to pen this project, which initially went into development two and a half years ago. However, he has now been replaced by Bernero. Back then, it was unclear is the project was a feature film or a limited series.
A member of the intergalactic police force known as the Nova Corps, Nova first appeared in an 1976 issue of Super Adventures. He gains his superpowers, which includes enhanced strength, flight and resistance to injury, to be a part of the Nova Corps. While he has had some battles with the Skrulls, the character has not had many run-ins with some of the main character of the current or past MCU in the comics. The Skrulls, however, are a huge part of Captain Marvel and the limited series, Secret Invasion.
Apart from serving as executive producer and showrunner of CBS' drama series Criminal Minds, Bernero has also co-created and executive produced it's spinoff Suspect Behavior, which aired for one season on the streamer. Before Criminal Minds, he executive produced and co-created NBC's Third Watch and Crossing Lines.
