The Defenders and its related series are officially part of the future Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline, opening up the possibility for Jessica Jones to appear in future MCU projects, alongside other characters from the Defenders universe. In a recent event, Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel Studios, stated that he wants to see the MCU comeback of Krysten Ritter's fan-favourite character Jessica Jones. Subsequently, Marvel's Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter has thrown her hat in the ring for a return to the MCU. Speaking to ComicBook about her voice role in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Ritter stated, "Brad Winderbaum said that? That’s really exciting to hear. Isn’t that the guy who makes the call?" She then added with enthusiasm, "Come on, Brad! Let’s get it going. Let’s do it. I’ll be ready."
Part of the The Defenders universe, Jessica Jones debuted on Netflix back in 2015 and went on to a popular series among critics and audiences alike. The series earned appreciation for its portrayal of addiction, recovery, and trauma, as well as the way it explored tropes not often tackled in superhero stories. Ritter’s portrayal of Jessica Jones, a sexual abuse survivor cum detective gained the actor much appreciation and a loyal following among MCU fans.
Meanwhile, the Defenders are coming back to the MCU through Daredevil: Born Again.
