Good news for fans of Harry Potter as HBO has confirmed that the new series based on the books of JK Rowling will begin shooting at the iconic Leavesden Studios in the UK—the same location where the original movies were brought to life.

Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer Mark Mylod made the announcement at the Max Showcase in London.

Gardiner opened about a few details on the series which is described to be a “very very specifically British 1990s production.” Although casting has not been finalised yet, it has been revealed that over 32,000 children auditioned for the parts. The makers have revealed that the shortlisted candidates will all be called up for workshops in January. The producer also revealed that the team aims to review 500 to 1,000 audition tapes daily and the shortlisted candidates will be called up for workshops in January.

Variety has reported that Warner Bros. has approached Mark Rylance for the role of Dumbledore. Meanwhile, Jared Harris, the son of the late Richard Harris, has declined the opportunity to take on his father’s iconic portrayal of the Hogwarts headmaster. In contrast, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Paapa Essiedu has been offered the role of Severus Snape.

Recently, Ralph Fiennes, who played Voldemort in the Harry Potter films, mentioned his desire that Cillian Murphy should play the antagonist.
