Paramount on Tuesday released the first trailer for its upcoming film, Sonic the Hedgehog 3. A sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022), the film will see old cast members reprise their roles, like Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, Tika Sumpter as Maddie Wachowski, and Lee Majdoub as Agent Stone.
The trailer introduces us to the evil Shadow the Hedgehog, played by Keanu Reeves, whose abilities are considered to overpower those of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. The voiceover goes, “Shadow’s story began a lot like yours, Sonic, but where you found family and friends, Shadow found only pain and loss."
Jeff Fowler, who is the director of the first two films in the franchise, will return to direct Sonic 3. The film hits theatres on December 20 and will follow the events of the Paramount+ live-action miniseries Knuckles, which followed the titular character voiced by Elba. The films are based out of the video game universe created by Sega.
