The Golden Globe-nominated biopic about the rock and roll icon Ritchie Valens, La Bamba (1987), will officially be remade.

The film about the maverick young Mexican-American musical sensation will be made by Mucho Mas Media in association with Sony Pictures. What seemed like the beginning of a successful life and career was cut short as Ritchie Valens' died when he was 17 in a plane crash.

Hailed as the forefather of the Chicano rock movement, Valens passed away barely months after his super successful songs 'La Bamba' and 'Donna'.

The script of the remake film will be written by Oscar-nominated writer Jose Rivera, known for The Motorcycle Diaries, while the writer and director of the original film Luis Valdez will serve as the executive producer along with Sherrese Clarke Soares and Robert Munoz.

The film produced by Javier Chapa will also witness the collaboration of Sony Music Mexico in honouring the late musician.
