Warner Bros released the trailer for the anime feature film The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim on Thursday which gives a first look into Succession star Brian Cox who voices the animated character Helm Hammerhand, the sword-wielding King of Rohan.

Produced by Warner Bros Animation and New Line Cinema, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim focuses on a previously unexplored chapter in JRR Tolkien's original creation.

Set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original trilogy of films, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim tells the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan. A sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg— a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep. Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Héra, the daughter of Helm, must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction.

Hèra, voiced by actress Gaia Wise, marks the first time a female character leads a Lord of the Rings adaptation. Miranda Otto, who starred in Peter Jackson’s film trilogy, returns to lend her voice to her original character Eowyn.

The voice cast includes Miranda Otto, Lorraine Ashbourne, Yazdan Qafouri, Benjamin Wainwright Laurence Ubong Williams and Shaun Dooley.

Earlier this year, Warner Bros. screened the first 20 minutes of the movie at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

With a story by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, the script is penned by Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou. The film is produced by Joseph Chou of Sola Entertainment. Phillippa Boyens, who co-wrote Jackson’s film trilogy, serves as an executive producer. The creative team also includes original LOTR trilogy contributors Richard Taylor, Alan Lee and Tolkien illustrator John Howe.

The film is all set to be released in theatres on December 13.
