The trailer for The Outrun, starring Saoirse Ronan in the lead, was released by the makers on Monday. Directed by Nora Fingscheidt, the drama is based on the 2016 memoir of the same name by Amy Liptrot.
The trailer shows Ronan as an alcoholic who is trying to stay sober and thereby goes back to her life in the past to make amends and get closure to help with her journey towards complete sobriety.
The official synopsis for The Outrun reads, "After living life on the edge in London, Rona attempts to come to terms with her troubled past. She returns to the wild beauty of Scotland’s Orkney Islands, where she grew up, hoping to heal."
Paapa Essiedu, Nabil Elouahabi, Izuka Hoyle, Lauren Lyle, Saskia Reeves, and Stephen Dillane star in supporting roles in The Outrun. Fingscheidt has directed the film from a screenplay she co-wrote with Amy Liptrot and a story the two co-wrote with Daisy Lewis.
Produced by BBC Film, Protagonist Pictures, Brock Media, and Arcade Pictures, The Outrun had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, on January 19. The film is all set to hit theatres on September 27.
