Universal Pictures has secured the rights to adapt Britney Spears' memoir The Woman in Me for the screen. Wicked director Jon M Chu and producer Marc Platt are attached to the project. Spears herself took to social media to share her excitement about the "secret project," praising Platt's filmography and promising fans that she will soon give more updates about it.

The memoir, a candid and unflinching account of Spears' life from child stardom to her tumultuous conservatorship, is a runaway bestseller, with 2.5 million copies sold in the US alone. With raw honesty, it details the singer's rise to fame, her complex relationships, and the predatory environment that surrounded her.

Spears expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support her memoir received, stating, “I poured my heart and soul into my memoir, and I am grateful to my fans and readers around the world for their unwavering support.”

Universal Pictures boasts a successful track record with music-driven biopics, including Straight Outta Compton and 8 Mile. With projects on Snoop Dogg and Prince also in the pipeline, the studio is solidifying its position in the genre.

Meanwhile, Chu and Platt's adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked is set to hit theaters in two parts, with the first instalment arriving on November 22.

Since her liberation from the conservatorship in November 2021, Spears has largely stepped out of the public eye. Despite her previous dominance in the music industry, she is no longer actively performing and is currently exploring songwriting behind the scenes.
