The makers of American Wolf have chosen Ashley Avis as the writer and director for the film. She will write it based on Nate Blakeslee’s novel American Wolf and direct it for Apple Original Films. The Appian Way banner, overseen by Jennifer Davisson and Leonardo DiCaprio, will produce it and Blakeslee will serve as a consulting producer. Reportedly, the film is being developed and the distributor is yet to greenlight it.
Blakeslee’s novel is about O-Six, an alpha female wolf with a high level of intelligence, and her rise and fall that bring her species together in a way that makes them global phenomena.
The aforesaid banner brought Avis as a writer and director after they saw her documentary Wild Beauty: Mustang Spirit of the West and made a pitch for her to Apple.
Avis most recently helmed The Lamb, which made her the first woman from the West to direct a film set in Saudi Arabia. She is set to write and direct the City of Angels remake for Warner Bros as well.
