We had earlier reported that Kraven the Hunter, the upcoming Spider-Man spin-off from Sony and Marvel, would hit the theatres on August 30, 2024. However, on Friday evening, Sony moved the film to December 13, 2024. The Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan starrer The Karate Kid will release on May 30, 2025, after the sixth and final season of Macchio's Cobra Kai. As the change in Karate Kid's release date leaves a release slot open for the 2024 holiday season, Sony opted to move Kraven the Hunter into its old spot.
Kraven the Hunter stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ariana DeBose, Alessandro Nivola, Christopher Abbott, Fred Hechinger, Levi Miller, Murat Seven and Russell Crowe. Directed by JC Chandor, the film is about Spider-Man's Marvel antagonist Kraven. Richard Wenk, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway wrote the screenplay based on a story by Richard Wenk.
Karate Kid, meanwhile, is about a teen who moves from China to the East Coast and finds guidance from a tough but wise mentor. Jonathan Entwistle and Joshua Jackson are directing the new instalment in the Karate Kid franchise from a Rob Lieber screenplay.
Apart from these films, Sony has two new features in the pipeline: They Listen and Animal Friends. They Listen, from writer-director Chris Weitz, will be released on August 30, 2024, and Sony and Legendary’s live-action-animation hybrid Animal Friends will be released on August 15, 2025.
