Hayao Miyazaki's The Boy and The Heron to release in Indian theatres on this date

Hayao Miyazaki’s Oscar-winning anime film The Boy and The Heron is set to release theatrically in India on May 10, Warner Bros. India announced on Friday.

The film bagged the best animated feature award at the 96th Academy Awards in 2024. It is to be noted that Hayao Miyazaki has previously won an Oscar for his 2003 film Spirited Away.

The film's official synopsis reads, “A young boy named Mahito, longing for his mother, ventures into a world shared by the living and the dead. There, death comes to an end, and life finds a new beginning. A semi-autobiographical fantasy about life, death and creation, in tribute to friendship, from the mind of Hayao Miyazaki.”

The Boy and the Heron, which is touted as Miyazaki's final Studio Ghibli project, was released in Japan on July 14 last year as Kimitachi wa Di Ikiruka, which means 'How Do You Live?' While Miyazaki has written the story, it is backed by Toshio Suzuki. Joe Hisaishi has scored the music.

The Japanese voice cast includes Soma Santoki, Masaki Suda, Ko Shibasaki, Aimyon, Yoshino Kimura, Takuya Kimura, Kaoru Kobayashi, and Shinobu Otake.

The film will be released in Indian theatres in Japanese with English subtitles and English-dubbed versions in Indian theatres.
