The trailer for Pablo Berger’s Oscar-nominated animated feature, Robot Dreams, was unveiled by Neon on Tuesday. Starring Ivan Labanda, Albert Trifol Segarra, and Rafa Calvo, the film is written by Berger along with Sara Varon.
The trailer shows a lonely dog receiving a dismantled robot via courier. The robot then comes to life and befriends the dog. Completely new to life itself, the naive robot and the lonely dog embark on an adventurous day out filled with twists and turns.
Robot Dreams is based on the eponymous graphic novel and revolves around a lonely New Yorker, DOG, who takes matters into his own hands and builds a robot companion. Their bond thrives in the vibrant atmosphere of 1980s Manhattan. However, a heartbreaking turn forces DOG to leave his robot friend behind on a summer night. The story leaves you wondering if their paths will ever cross again.
Ibon Cormenzana, Ignasi Estapé, Sandra Tapia Diaz and Ángel Durández have produced Robot Dreams with Berger, with Jérôme Vidal, Sylvie Pialat and Benoit Quainon as co-producers.
Robot Dreams didn't win the Oscar, but it was up for Best Animated Feature at the 2024 ceremony. It was nominated alongside films like Elemental, Spider-Man: Across The Spiderverse, Nimona and the winner in the category, The Boy and the Heron.
Robot Dreams will hit theatres on May 31.
