Vertical has bagged the North American distribution rights for The Exorcism, starring Russell Crowe, from Miramax. Consequently, the film is scheduled for a June 7 release.
Formerly known as The Georgetown Project, The Exorcism revolves around Crowe's troubled actor character Anthony Miller, who starts to deteriorate mentally during a supernatural horror film's production. Ryan Simpkins plays Miller's estranged daughter, who wonders whether her father's addiction history is catching up with him or whether there is a darker force at play.
This is Crowe's second exorcism-related film; earlier, he headlined The Pope’s Exorcist from Sony Pictures.
MA Fortin is directing the film from a Joshua John Miller screenplay. The two are collaborating again after The Final Girls and Queen of the South. The film also stars Sam Worthington, Chloe Bailey, David Hyde Pierce, and Adam Goldberg.
Miramax, Ben Fast, Bill Block, and Kevin Williamson are the producers of the film. On the other hand, Padraic McKinley, Andrew Golov, Thom Zadra, and Scott Putman serve as its executive producers.
