Actor Elliot Page is all set to develop Eliot Schrefer’s 2021 love story The Darkness Outside Us to the big screen.

The Oscar-nominated actor’s Pageboy Productions, which he runs with Matt Jordan Smith and Tuck Dowrey, has optioned the rights to the 2021 sci-fi novel, reported The Hollywood Reporter.

The novel narrates the story of two young men from enemy countries who are put aboard a spacecraft on a rescue mission. Along the way, they must learn they should work together, and that love may be the key to them surviving.

In a statement, Page, Jordan Smith and Dowrey said, "We are proud to stand behind Eliot’s remarkable work. The Darkness Outside Us is exactly the type of story we want to champion at Pageboy – it’s subversive and deeply human at its core. It’s a complex love story, inventive thriller, and a space epic with twists at every turn. We cannot wait to take the next steps towards getting it on the big screen."

Apart from this much-famed novel, Schrefer also has a sequel, The Brightness Between Us, which is scheduled to be released in October.

Other details regarding the film including the cast and crew information, is yet to be announced by the makers.
