Director Wes Ball: Caesar is one of the great protagonists in film history

Director Wes Ball will make his return to big screen with his upcoming epic franchise Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes after six years, Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018).

The film is a sequel to the War for the Planet of the Apes (2017), which is a sequel to the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)

The film is set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.

The film, which introduces new characters and storylines, has several references to Caesar, whom Ball calls “one of the great protagonists in film history.”

“Caesar is in this new movie, spiritually, throughout everything,” Ball explains. “His ideas of morality and decency and his relationship with humans–all that is explored through an almost mythical lens that I think is exciting.”

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is directed by Wes Ball and stars Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, Peter Macon, and William H. Macy. The screenplay is by Josh Friedman and Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver and Patrick Aison. Jaffa and Silver also co-produce the film along with Wes Ball, Joe Hartwick Jr and Jason T. Reed.

The technical crew comprises cinematographer Gyula Pados, editor Dan Zimmerman and music composer John Paesano.

The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, released by the 20th Century Studios, will premiere in India on May 10 in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
