Glen Powell, best known for Top Gun: Maverick, has signed up for a lead role in The Running Man from director Edgar Wright. The Running Man is a remake of the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger starrer of the same name. Powell will play a version of the same role that Schwarzenegger played in the original. Paramount Pictures announced the casting at the ongoing CinemaCon event.

The film is based on a dystopian Stephen King novel, but King published it under his Richard Bachman pseudonym. Set in a dystopic US, it revolves around a wrongly convicted cop getting a chance for liberation through a television game show.

Wright is producing The Running Man with Nira Park and Simon Kinberg. Wright is known for his wit and distinctive filmmaking style, which is especially evident in his titles such as Hot Fuzz, Baby Driver, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and Shaun of the Dead.

Powell, meanwhile, is hot on the heels of a career high with Anyone but You, starring opposite Sydney Sweeney. Netflix picked up Powell's next film Hit Man.
