Lionsgate changes release dates for The Crow and Saw XI

Lionsgate announced at CinemaCon that it is releasing its upcoming films The Crow and Saw XI at later dates than what it originally planned. Subsequently, The Crow is slated for an August 23, 2024, release, and Saw XI will hit theatres on September 26, 2025.

Rupert Sanders' retelling of Alex Proyas' The Crow stars Bill Skarsgard as the person who comes back from death to avenge his and his lover's killings. The change in its release date means that The Crow will compete with the thriller Blink Twice from Amazon MGM Studios and the faith-based film The Forge from Sony Pictures at the box office.

The change in The Crow release date comes shortly after Alex Proyas, the filmmaker of the original starring the late Brandon Lee, expressed his disinterest in the remake. In a social media post, Proyas said, “I really don’t get any joy from seeing negativity about any fellow filmmakers work. And I’m certain the cast and crew really had all good intentions, as we all do on any film. So it pains me to say any more on this topic, but I think the fan’s response speaks volumes. [‘The Crow’] is not just a movie. Brandon Lee died making it, and it was finished as a testament to his lost brilliance and tragic loss. It is his legacy. That’s how it should remain.”

On the other hand, Kevin Greutert's Saw XI stars Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, and Synnøve Macody Lund.
