Lea Seydoux's The Second Act will kick-off the Cannes Film Festival

French director Quentin Dupieux's Le Deuxieme Acte or The Second Act, starring Lea Seydoux and Vincent Lindon will open the 77th Cannes Film Festival.

The official synopsis of The Second Act reads, "“Florence wants to introduce David, the man she’s madly in love with, to her father Guillaume. But David isn’t attracted to Florence and wants to throw her into the arms of his friend Willy. The four characters meet in a restaurant in the middle of nowhere.”

The film will be released in French cinemas the same day (April 14) it premieres at the Cannes.

Director Quentin Dupieux has made 13 feature films in the past 17 years and is known for making absurdist movies. His Deerskin premiered at the Cannes at 2019 and his Smoking Causes Coughing at 2022.

Barbie director Greta Gerwig will preside over this year's main jury, making her the second woman to be made a main jury after Jane Campion in the 67th Cannes Film Festival in 2014.

Cannes Film Festival chief Thierry Fremaux will unveil the lineup at the annual press conference on April 11.

The 77th Cannes Film Festival will be held from May 14 to 25.
