First look at young Mufasa from The Lion King prequel out

After much anticipation, Disney has revealed the first look of Mufasa from the upcoming film Mufasa: The Lion King.

The film, which is being helmed by Academy Award-winning director and screenwriter Barry Jenkins, will be a prequel of the 2019 live action remake of animated film The Lion King. The film will revolve around the titular character of Simba's father Mufasa and how he rose to be the king of his pack.

The first look showed a young Mufasa looking out over the Pride Lands, which will later be taken over by Simba after Mufasa's death. The lands look barren akin to how it is shown in the 2019 movie when Scar rules over the place after murdering his brother. No other characters are seen around him.

While Aaron Pierre will lend his voice for younger version of Mufasa, Kelvin Harrison Jr will voice for Scar. Others part of the cast include Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, and John Kani as Pumbaa, Tomon and Rafiki respectively.

Jeff Nathanson, the screenwriter who penned the 2019 screenplay for the previous computer-generated adaptation of The Lion King, once again returns to write the script for Mufasa: The Lion King. Nathanson will also serve as a producer on the project.

Mufasa: The Lion King, will be releasing in theatres on December 20, 2024
