David Wenham is all set to play one of the most-popular roles in his career, Johnny ‘Spit’ Spitteri, in the sequel to 2003's Gettin’ Square. In the 2003 film, Wenham plays an erstwhile convict who is fresh out jail. Sam Worthington plays Wenham's brother in Gettin’ Square.

Production of the sequel, titled SPIT, is now going on in Brisbane and Gold Coast, and is expected to be wrapped up by May. It also brings back Jonathan Teplitzky of Gettin’ Square as he is directing the film from a Christopher Nyst script.

Trish Lake, Greg Duffy, Wenham, and Felicity McVay are producing SPIT. The film follows Spitteri's misadventures as he comes back to Australia from a detention centre.

“Barely a day goes by when I am not asked about Johnny Spitieri, a character I played more than 20 years ago. Spit was a character that endeared himself to audiences—bad habits, bad haircut and bad fashion aside, he was the quintessential Everyman, a little man doing his best under seemingly impossible circumstances,” Wenham said.

Helen Thomson, David Roberts, Gary Sweet, and David Field are also reprising their roles from the first part. Arlo Green, Sam and Teagan Rybka, Sami Afuni, and Ayik Daniel Chut Deng round out the cast. Cinematographer Garry Phillips and production designer Nicholas McCallum of Gettin’ Square are also attached to the sequel.
