Oppenheimer ranks four in viewership in Japan: Report

Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer stands in the fourth position in Japan on the basis of viewers and box-office collection.

According to a Japanese movie website Kogyotsushin, the biopic of nuclear physicist J Robert Oppenheimer has brought in 2,31,000 viewers and has raised 79 million yen (USD 527,206) at the box office.

While the top three slots have been dominated by Japanese films Strange House, Haikyu The Movie: Battle At The Garbage Dump and Doraemon The Movie: Nobita's Earth Symphony for several weeks, the contentious film among the Japanese audience has found its place within the top 5 ranks.

Oppenheimer's release invited criticism from sections of Japan as the film "did not sufficiently depict the horror of nuclear weapons."

The film starring Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr and Emily Blunt went on to win Oscars under seven categories including Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Picture and Best Director.
